We aim to promote and improve the welfare of anyone in need in Walton-on-Thames, Hersham and Oatlands. We offer a wide variety of services.

About Us

Walton on Thames Charity can trace its origins to approximately the year 1202. Originally in exchange for some land in Walton given free to a nobleman, the nobleman and his successors had to give assistance to the poor of Walton. Over the centuries, other charities, including the founding of the Charity’s Almshouses in 1640, were established in the area. Towards the end of the 19th century many of these charities began to amalgamate. By 1963 that process was complete and the organisation known as Walton Charities assumed responsibility for all the activities of these charities. This name remained until 1984 when the present name of Walton on Thames Charity was adopted. This was also the first year that the Charity gave financial grants to other local organisations.

The Charity’s mission is:

To help those in the Ancient parish of Walton on Thames who are in need, by providing:

  • Specialist accommodation
  • Financial assistance
  • Allotments
  • Grant funding of organisations for the welfare of local people
  • Effective management of the Charity's resources to provide for the future
and by working with others to achieve this.

The Charity's current activities fall into four broad areas:

Housing: Sheltered housing and residential care

Benefits: Help to individuals in need

Allotments

Association grants: Financial help to other local organisations providing assistance for people in the Borough of Elmbridge.
