Walton-on-Thames CharityWalton Charity is proud to announce the launch of our new project in partnership with St Mary’s with St John’s Church in Walton and St Peter’s in Hersham. St Mary’s Church has successfully had a food bank project set up for some time. Due to high demand, St Mary’s has teamed up with Walton Charity and St Peter’s Church Hersham to form the Walton and Hersham Food Bank which supplies an emergency 3-day food box to people in need.
The Walton and Hersham Food bank is a successful partnership, providing parcels of food to last three days to people in crisis or financial difficulty. We particularly help those who have recently had an unexpected change in circumstances or facing financial crisis.
The delivery of food parcels is mostly be run by volunteers and we are looking to recruit more to join our team. Our delivery drivers help the food bank reach isolated individuals, are willing to stop for a friendly chat, and need to be observant of any signs of bigger problems. Our drivers are the life and soul of the food bank. If you feel you have the right skills and attitude for this role please contact our offices. Petrol mileage and any out of pocket expenses will be paid for by the Charity.
The Food Bank relies on donations from members of the community and corporate groups. If you would like to donate to the Food Bank please bring any items to the Walton Charity offices, where a donation box is set up in the foyer.
For large (e.g. corporate) collections we are able to collect from your location, if arranged in advance. We are particularly looking for non-perishable food items such as tinned vegetables, pasta and soup. Please click here for a more extensive list.
If you would like leaflets to advertise the food bank in your offices/work premises for a donation drive, please contact the offices and we will by happy to arrange that for you.
Individuals facing a crisis, who for whatever reason do not have enough food can approach the food bank.
In most circumstances we only accept applications for food parcels by referral from a recognised voluntary sector or statutory agency. In extreme circumstances, self referral may be accepted. To discuss the possibility of a self-referral, please call our Grants Officer on 0203 3280246.
Proof of financial difficulty will be required, such as benefits letter or bank statement.
If the application is successful, arrangements will be made for you to either collect or for the food parcel to be delivered to you. It is at this point that we may also provide you with information on other services which may be of benefit to you.
The Food Bank aims to provide assistance within 24 hours of the initial application wherever possible.
