Grants for individuals

Walton Charity’s Individual Grants programme is here to support individuals and families in Elmbridge who are facing financial difficulty.

We give funds to local schools and partner organisations to support families and individuals across Elmbridge. We can also award direct grants to help with training and back to work costs to people who are referred to us.

Find out more about applying for a grant below.

PLEASE NOTE: we are currently unable to directly fund household items including furniture and appliances.
For urgent support, please contact the Surrey Crisis Fund. If you are a PA Housing resident, please contact their sustainability team.
To find out about other available support, see our local support directory.

  • To apply for a grant from Walton Charity you will need to be referred by a local organisation. This could be your local Citizens Advice, Social Services, a career advisor or another community partner. You can find a list of referral organisations here.

Organisations that already have a Walton Charity Delegated Fund may be able to help you directly. This could be a quicker way to get help.

If you need help with school-related costs, ask your child’s school about the Walton Charity Opportunities Fund.

You will be asked to provide bank statements or other financial information.

  • We can award grants for the following:

    • Training or support for getting back into work (eg, course fees, equipment or work-related clothing). You will need to be referred by a work coach or career adviser.

    • Short-term childcare or travel and transport costs to help people get back into work (eg, during training). For help with lower cost transport request, see the Transport section of our Support Directory.

    • See below for items we don’t fund.

Note, our school uniform grants are now administered by local schools and some of our community partners. See who to contact for help with school uniforms.

To discuss other types of support, please contact Amina Lawson on 07935 218 699.

  • We don’t give grants for the following:

    • Furniture, household goods or appliances (our Delegated Fund holders might be able to help with these)

    • School-related costs (or Opportunities Fund holders may be able to help with these)

    • Rent deposits, rent in advance or rent arrears

    • Degree course tuition fees or post-graduate qualifications

    • Medical equipment, aids and adaptations normally provided by the NHS or statutory agencies

    • Catalogue debts, credit cards bills, personal loans or debt to central or local government departments

    • Funeral costs

    • Holidays

  • Once we have received a referral from one of our referral partners, and we have received bank statements and any other supporting info, we will assess your application. We aim to process applications within one week. If your application is successful, we will then arrange payment (usually directly to the supplier).

  • Please note, we are not an emergency service. If you need help urgently please contact one of the following:
