Meet up Mondays at Riverhouse Barn on Tuesdays!

Walton is to start its own version of the national initiative Meet Up Mondays next week – but on Tuesdays!

The meets are to be held at the Riverhouse Barn Café every Tuesday from 10.30 – 12.00. They are open to anyone who fancies a chat, a free cup of tea or coffee and a cake or biscuit will be on offer, alongside friendly company.

Organised by Walton Charity and WoTTA (Walton on Thames Trading Alliance), these Tuesday meets are also supported by local charities The Counselling Partnership, ECL, Home Instead, Homestart, Home Support and Mary Frances Trust. Each week one of the charities involved will come along to help facilitate conversations and organise the teas and coffees.

The scheme provides a great opportunity for local charities to work together with real community spirit while offering up a friendly smile to anyone who feels like company.

Joanna Gordon of WoTTA said, “I was new to Walton five years ago so know what it’s like to be lonely. Getting involved volunteering was what helped me feel like I belonged. Loneliness spans all types of groups in the community from new mothers to elderly people living on their own. It was fantastic that this idea fell into place so easily, with all the charities keen to get behind the Council’s aim of tackling loneliness.”

The initiative also marks the start of Riverhouse Barn Café becoming a community venture making more use of volunteers and becoming a focus for local community organisations.
