Nutritional Ninjas Fight Holiday Hunger at Walton Oak School

Over 115 children attending Walton Oak School are entitled to Free School Meals and during the school holiday periods their families often struggle to buy food.  Nutritional Ninjas were asked to help these children by offering a ‘Food and Fun’ camp for one week during the school summer holidays and with financial support from our Community Grant they will be able to offer the ‘Food and Fun’ camp, free of charge, to those at risk of ‘holiday hunger’.

There will be 30 places available exclusively for children attending Walton Oak School, and the children will be introduced to a range of healthy recipes.  They will prepare food for their lunch which they will share with their fellow camp mates.  They will also prepare a meal to take home with them to share with their family at the end of the day.

Often the parents of these children will go without food themselves or buy cheaper food with little nutritional value, so, during the week, Nutritional Ninjas will run fun a cooking workshop for the parents to enjoy with their children.  This aims to teach the family how to prepare cheap, healthy recipes which they can then recreate at home.

In addition to the cookery, there will be a range of different activities on offer during the week and children will have the opportunity to take part in workshops such as African drumming, arts & crafts, and games.
