For 15 years Arthur had worked as the Head Gardener at a local landscape garden and his job provided him with tied accommodation.
Unfortunately, Arthur was made redundant and then found himself sofa surfing with friends. This situation went on for a couple of months. Arthur sought advice from the Citizens Advice Bureau and he registered with the Housing Department at Elmbridge Borough Council. Unfortunately, his chances of being rehoused by the local authority were extremely slim as he has no dependants.
Luckily, Arthur had heard of a local charity called Elmbridge Rentstart, who assist single people and childless couples on low income to access accommodation in the private rented sector. Arthur registered with Rentstart and they were able to work with Walton Charity.
He was offered short term accommodation in the guest room at Mayfield sheltered housing and Arthur remained there for 5 months until a flat at Mayfield became vacant. He was then offered permanent accommodation.
Unfortunately, his chances of being rehoused by the local authority were extremely slim as he has no dependants.
