The Scorchers Basketball Foundation is the community arm of the Surrey Scorchers pro-British Basketball League team, running projects for those with limited access to sport such as the disadvantaged, disabled and elderly. They use basketball to bring people together and improve their lives.

Walton Charity is supporting The Scorchers Basketball Foundation to run Basketball 4 All with the Year 5’s at Bell Farm, Grovelands, Walton Oak and Burhill primary schools. Professional basketball players and coaches work with the children to act as positive role-models, teach them basketball skills and referee mini-tournaments. The activities address physical and mental wellbeing and improve life-skills for all children, while also providing an opportunity for continued participation at after-school sessions at Three Rivers Academy on Mondays during School term time.

The four local schools participating have high levels of pupil premium* students and participants will not be asked to contribute towards the basketball coaching, enabling every child to participate for free

Bridget Hayward, trustee of the Foundation said “We are very grateful to The Walton Charity for giving these children an opportunity to experience basketball without having to worry about their family’s financial situation.   We will make sure they have a great time and encourage them to continue playing to help their physical and mental wellbeing.”

*The pupil premium is additional school funding for disadvantaged children. It is paid directly to the child's school to improve the quality of their education.
