Summer Lunch Club
for Local Families

A guaranteed warm welcome is awaiting local people at St. Mary’s and St John’s Church, Walton on Thames, when the doors open for their Summer Lunch Club.

The church is running the lunch club every Friday during August from 11.30 am to 1.30 pm.  Working in collaboration with local charity Families Matter*, a local Children’s Centre and Walton & Hersham Foodbank together with staff from Walton Oak Primary School, the church will offer free, hot, healthy meals to families in need.

Whilst for many families the start of six weeks summer holidays from school is full of fun, cultural enrichment and exciting activities, for others the summer holidays are a period of stress, food insecurity and hunger. Many school age children don’t just rely on school for education and social interaction, but also for an essential meal.

Walton Charity is supporting the project by awarding a Community Grant which helps towards the cost of food and has also assisted the church to buy a much-needed new microwave cooker.

The congregation of St. Mary’s and St. John’s Church have been hugely supportive of the lunch club project and currently an army of 38 volunteers have sprung into action to ensure there is a plentiful supply of hot nutritious meals over the summer.
