Thank you, Community Payback Team
For many years Guildford Probation have supported Walton Charity. Once, sometimes twice a week, teams of up to eight people from their Community Payback Team come to various Walton Charity sites.
At the Charity’s four allotment sites they have worked hard clearing plots and installing fences. An allotment tenant, who was a complete novice to allotment growing, recently told us that she just would not have known where to start if the Community Payback Team had not cleared her plot of weed and brambles. A year later, her plot is one of the nicest on the allotment site.
The teams have also been hard at work in our woodlands, attacking ivy and digging ditches. Ivy can be one of the major causes of trees being blown over in high winds and the teams have been systematically removing the ivy that has been rapidly taking over many of the trees. Their work is a vital part of maintaining our healthy woodlands.
An allotment tenant said “I had a wonderful day at the allotments yesterday. I have not been very well in last few months and had not been able to get many things done. Trying to look after my plot is sometimes a bit challenging, especially, having plots on either side which are immaculate. So, it was a lovely surprise when I got there and found the Community Payback Team there. One of the young boys was sent to help me – a delightful young man. He was a star….so polite and hard working. I can’t stress enough how wonderful it was. I got so much done”.
