Walton Oak School are Delighted with New Funding
The Trustees of Walton Charity have agreed to £15,000 worth of Community Grant funding, over a three year period, to part fund two Delight Programmes at Walton Oak School.
Delight, a Surrey based charity, established in 2013, has already achieved significant success in targeted Surrey schools to improve children’s academic and social outcomes.
Delight Programmes, developed with teachers, use access to books and immersive arts experiences to address key learning obstacles that children face and then support them to achieve their full potential.
Walton Charity will support Delight and Walton Oak in delivering:
Delight in Books - to provide all children with access to 1000’s of books that they can choose, take home and keep.
Delight in Shakespeare – to give Years 4, 5 and 6 children the opportunity to watch an especially adapted Shakespeare performance (Midsummer Night’s Dream, Romeo and Juliet or Macbeth) and Year 5 children to take part in an immersive six week block of work with professional actors to develop their own performance to share with the wider community.
The Trustees of Walton Charity have asked that the Charity’s funding be concentrated on Delight in Books which aims to increase the number of books every pupil at Walton Oak School has in their home. These are pre-loved books from an extensive donated collection held by the Delight and are given free (each child receives two free books) or at a very low cost (families can buy additional books for 30p).
Declan Morton, Assistant Head at Walton Oak School said ‘The activities available with Delight provide an unusual and valuable opportunity to engage with books and drama in a way which generates huge enthusiasm amongst children and parents alike’.
