Direct Grant Vocational Fund referral form guidance notes
The purpose of Walton Charity’s Direct Grant Vocational Fund is to help with training and back-to-work costs for people who are referred to us by a career advisor or an employment specialist.
Introduction
You have received via Salesforce an “invitation to apply for a Direct Grant” link. Please read the notes below in full before completing the referral form:
The notes relate to numbered sections in the application form.
The form should be completed and submitted online by you, the referrer, only once the applicant has given consent.

Grants criteria
We award grants for the following:
Training or support for getting back into work or finding more secure work (e.g., course fees, equipment, work-related clothing).
Short-term childcare or transport costs to help people get back into, or stay in, work.
We consider each grant on an individual basis. Our average grant size is c. £300; however our maximum amount is c. £1000.
Section 1 - Referring organisation details
Please enter the full name and address of your organisation.
Please enter your full name, your role, email address and phone number in the appropriate sections.
Section 2 - Applicant details
Enter their surname and forename(s) as they appear on official documents such as their passport or driving licence.
Please provide the postal and email address which they would like to use for correspondence.
Enter their employment status and age.
Section 3 - Applicant’s household
Enter the number of dependent children who are over 18, and under 18, that are living at the applicant’s address.
Include the ages of all children under 18.
Please state whether any children over 18 are working or in full-time education.
State how many other adults (e.g., partner/spouse) are in the household and whether or not they are working, or in full-time or part-time training or education.
Section 4 - Applicant’s health
Enter any relevant health conditions and whether there are any concerns regarding lone working.
You can add here details about any related health benefits the applicant is receiving.
Section 5 - Support required
Please select what type of support you are seeking for your client. There are four categories:
Household funding (white goods, utility bills, and bed/mattress). Please note this is only applicable to Resident Hardship Fund and is not relevant to vocational funding requests.
Funding for childcare (extra-curricular activities, school holiday club, school trip, childcare)
Vocational funding (course fees or accreditation, course uniform, course materials)
Transport funding (bike and travel costs)
Then input the total amount of funding requested.
Section 6 - Statement and other support
Please use this space to outline the reason for the referral. Specify any financial challenges or difficulties the individual or the family may be facing. Please also include other support required or to provide further information on any of the above sections.
Please also include information about the support the individual/family is currently receiving, including listing any statutory support or other local support agencies such as social services, Surrey Crisis Fund, or any other organisations.
Include if any other applications for support have been made to other funders.
Please state if the applicant has any other caring responsibilities in addition to any covered above in section three.
Section 7 - Applicant finances
Please complete all the relevant sections on the applicant’s monthly income and expenditure.
Including any household debts/arrears and any benefits they are receiving will allow us to better assess their needs.
Section 8 - Appendices
Please submit the applicant’s most recent bank statement, including their most recent saving account statement where relevant.
Section 9 - Data protection statement and declaration
Please ensure you have sought permission from the applicant before submitting the application form.
