Elmbridge Poverty Truth Commission (EPTC)

Throughout our history, Walton Charity has striven to understand and raise awareness of the impacts of poverty and inequality.

To be truly effective in this, we need to engage local voices in a meaningful way, and involve our community in the decision-making process. To this end, we have formed the Elmbridge Poverty Truth Commission (EPTC).

The Poverty Truth Commission is a comprehensive and well-structured participatory approach, and has been proven to work through multiple commissions held across the UK. Done well, the EPTC will encourage change within organisations, institutions, and communities; develop shared work across different local groups; and produce policy proposals around key areas of anti-poverty efforts.

The EPTC will bring together two distinct groups of people: senior civic, political, and business leaders; and an equal number of people who experience the negative effects of poverty daily. Collectively, this group will work to understand the nature of poverty in Elmbridge, the underlying factors that create it, and explore creative ways of addressing these issues.

We are still in the preparation stages of the EPTC, and will be releasing further information as we get underway later this year. If you would like to learn more, please contact communications@waltoncharity.org.uk.
